Theo Hios "Precipice 1" Oil on Canvas 72x50"Theo Hios moved from Greece to America, disillusioned by  the corruption he found permeating the legal system. He left law school and followed his father and brother to New York.  He enrolled in the WPA art class and by 1937 was a working member of the WPA.  After WWll he studied at the Art Students League and and had his first solo show in NY at the Contemporary Arts Gallery in 1947.  He was known for his visionary views of nature. He divided his time between his studio in NYC and the Hamptons where lived with his wife Catherine, a ceramicist.  His work remains in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art NYC, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Boca Raton Museum of Art, Newark Museum of Art, Parrish Museum amongst many others.
